All-Encompassing Trip, by Guillermo Esteves

I was planning to only post photos from the Apollo 11 mission today, but I think plenty of people are doing that already, and The Big Picture did an awesome job yesterday, as always. So I’m just going to post this photo, because this is the one that does it for me, the one that gets me all choked up. It’s the commemorative plaque attached to the LEM:


  HERE MEN FROM THE PLANET EARTH 
  FIRST SET FOOT UPON THE MOON 
  JULY 1969 A.D. 
  WE CAME IN PEACE FOR ALL MANKIND.


I like to think that, if humanity suddenly vanished from the Earth and nature and erosion slowly erased every trace of our existence from the planet, this would still be there. Proof that we existed and went, in peace, for all Mankind.
