This means you can now add your Facebook Chat to iChat, Adium, Pidgin, and any other desktop IM applications that support Jabber, by following these instructions.
And because we all have people on Facebook we don’t really want to talk to, you can select which friend lists can see you in chat, so just add those people to a list and then remove that list from Chat from the website.

Another tip: go to Friends > All Connections and create similar lists for your family and co-workers. Now go to Privacy > Profile, and for each section of your profile you want to hide from those people, select “customize” and add their lists to the “except these people” text box. This is especially useful to prevent mom or your boss from seeing any tagged photos of you lying drunk facedown in a gutter.
Just a quick tip to help make Facebook a little bit more useful, since I frequently see people complaining about the stupid nonsense close relatives, co-workers and other people they feel obligated to keep on Facebook say in their News Feeds. First of all, go to Friends > All Connections, create a new list, and add all the people you do want to see in your News Feed. Leave out your boss, in-laws, etc.
Now go back to your News Feed, click on the little “more” link on the left side of the screen, and use the grab handles to drag your new list above the News Feed. From now on, whenever you log into Facebook, you’ll only see the updates from the people you really care about.

CNET:
A pro-Georgian blogger with accounts on Twitter, Facebook, LiveJournal and Google’s Blogger and YouTube was targeted in a denial of service attack that led to the site-wide outage at Twitter and problems at the other sites on Thursday, according to a Facebook executive.
The blogger, who uses the account name “Cyxymu,” (the name of a town in the Republic of Georgia) had accounts on all of the different sites that were attacked at the same time, Max Kelly, chief security officer at Facebook, told CNET News.
It was a simultaneous attack across a number of properties targeting him to keep his voice from being heard,Kelly said. We’re actively investigating the source of the attacks and we hope to be able to find out the individuals involved in the back end and to take action against them if we can.

Our senior year of college, my friend Meg, changed her birthday on Facebook from the correct date of July 13th to an incorrect date some random day in March.
She then waited to see who would write on her wall or send her a message wishing her a Happy Birthday on the wrong date. Anyone who did was instantly unfriended.
Oh man, I’m so doing this.

I think I finally get Tumblr. It’s like Facebook, but with people you don’t really know & with stuff you actually care about & enjoy.
I could not agree more.
